  4. Nature On Tap... What's Up Below: Exploring the Underwater Behavior of Humpback Whales

    Join us at Jack's Abby Brewery in Framingham for food, a beer and a thought provoking discussion with local experts about their work in the natural world. (Pizza appetizer is included with each ticket.) Pre-registration recommended to guarantee seating. Walk-ins welcome. New technologies are making it possible create data visualizations and even directly observe what whales are doing below the surface. Dr. David Wiley, Research Coordinator for the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, will present findings based on the sanctuary's use of synchronous motion, acoustic recording and video recording tags placed on humpback whales. He will discuss and show the humpback's famous use of bubble nets to trap fish, as well as less well known, but equally intriguing, feeding methods the whales use to corral and capture fast moving fish.

    CGY is pleased to welcome back Jacqui Bonwell for a special session inspired by her new book “Migrations: An Almanac For the Soul”. Co-author (and fellow yoga teacher) Andy Cahill will join Jacqui for a discussion, yoga practice and book signing for their recently released “bournal” (if a journal and book had a a baby). Migrations: An Almanac Almanac For the Soul takes 108 pieces of advice, contemplative questions & helpful, heartfelt words of advice that one can hold dear and sprinkles them over the 6 internal & external seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Hurricane, Winter, Spring again! This special session features a 75 minute Yoga class co-taught by Andy & Jacqui based on the teachings of their “bournal” that will end with an epic sound bath sure to soothe your nerves &rally your rhythmic resources at the same time. A book signing & some refreshments to follow class. Books will be available for purchase at class if needed.
