In 2013, Framingham’s commercial and industrial sector included over 2,260 businesses, generated, over 46,000 jobs, with a $3.5 billion payroll and an average annual wage over $74,000. This represents 26% of the total employment in MetroWest and almost 27% of the total MetroWest payroll1
. Framingham’s diverse commercial clusters have helped it weather the economic downturn and have strong recovery from the recent recession. In December 2014, Framingham's unemployment rate at 3.8% was among the states lowest and is still significantly below the state (5.3%) and national averages (5.6%)2
